Welcome

You can learn a bit about me on my About page. Here I share the philosophy of my practice and the theories that inform my work with you. The following perspectives inform my practice:

  • Humanist Psychology
  • Positive Psychology/Logotherapy
  • Resiliency Theory
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Systems Theory and the Ecological Model
  • Satir’s Family System Theory

I have been drawn to the work of Carl Rogers, the founder of Humanistic Psychology because it is person-centred. This means that your authentic being is valued, respected, and celebrated.  Most come to see a counsellor due to a problem that needs to be fixed. This approach lacks some of the principles embedded within positive psychology and theories of resilience. Humanistic psychology provides unconditional acceptance and regard for the process of growth and change. In my practice, problems, adversities, and life challenges are viewed as opportunities for growth, and the process of therapy helps us uncover the obstacles. These are all part of being human and a part of life, but the fact is that some challenges are more complex than others, and sometimes we need a little help.

My role is to help you move through the process of life with grace and ease by providing tools and resources to enhance the process of transition and growth. For instance, it reminds me of the faucet I recently changed. I had to hook the water line into another line, but the connection was problematic, and the inability to use the sink continued for days.    I decided to call in a plumber, and he provided the needed resources within an hour. He provided me with information to improve my ability to connect the faucet, a proper adapter was needed, and I needed to put the plumber tape on correctly and apply plumbers’ sealer or blue magic as it is called in the plumber’s world.  That is the essence of a good counselling experience in which resources and tools are provided to enhance the process of growth and transformation and increase our level of happiness in the present moment.

A core aspect of the therapeutic process is the professional relationship we develop with a counsellor or the goodness of fit between a counsellor and client. I offer a free 15-minute consultation (online) prior to any formal counselling to help you determine the goodness of fit. Book your 15-minute consultation by clicking on the button below
